Looks like I’ll have to wait a little longer to see the new movie by Pedro Almodovar.  It does not open in my area until 11/18/11.

If movies are supposed to tell a story in pictures, then Almodovar is a master.   His movies are sometimes confusing, often melodramatic, strange…but always visually stunning.  It’s no surprise that this filmmaker has won two Academy Awards (Best Foreign Language Film, Best Original Screenplay), a Golden Globe (Best Foreign Language Film) & many more awards around the globe, including in his native Spain.

This is his first foray into what some would call horror, while others will call it a psychological thriller.  Whatever genre people would like to put this movie in…I’m going to make sure to see this one.

IMDB describes the plot:

A brilliant plastic surgeon, haunted by past tragedies, creates a type of synthetic skin that withstands any kind of damage. His guinea pig: a mysterious and volatile woman who holds the key to his obsession.

Dana Stevens of Slate.com says,

“Vertigo is a clear antecedent, as are James Whale’s Frankenstein and Georges Franju’s Eyes Without A Face.”
